What an amazing day! After an early start, a long journey and a stop off at the services in Reading and excited group of KS2 children arrived at the Olympic Park in London and made their way into the Copperbox Arena. The first game was Australia versus Japan and the children soon got into the sport, cheering on individual players and learning the different signals. We were amazed when Riley Batt, one of the Australian team came over to say 'thank you' to us for our enthusiastic support.
The children were stars of the arena, being interviewed by the press and well as the stadium host who ensured we were often on the big screen in the arena! The children took part in dance competitions and the staff even had a go and were awarded free hoodies for their efforts!
After a break and an explore outside, we returned to watch the New Zealand team perform their Haka which dramatically echoed around the arena. The children enjoyed watching their game against the USA as well as a meet and great with both the Japanese and Australian teams - autographs a plenty!
Even after a long journey home, the children's spirits were high and the buzz continued the following week as the children continued to recount their experiences!
